Bond: It takes a Guinness to get to the gym

September 19, 2007

Daniel Craig is JACKED.  He got this way for his role as 007 in Casino Royale, and is in the process of muscling back up for the next Bond film.

However, A source at Bond producers Eon says that Craig isn’t finding hitting the gym easy, and the only comfort he finds is in the regular pints of Guinness after a workout.”

The motivation to workout from the Guinness clearly outweighs the 210 calories and 17 grams of carbs  per pint; whatever it takes.

Runners always find dead bodies

July 17, 2007

I love my Pearl Izumi cycling shoes.  They are pretty old school, ugly, and don’t breathe.  I still love them. What I didn’t realize is that they are more than just a cycling brand.  And now they are really pushing this angle.

Gym Review – The Gym – Covent Garden – London

July 9, 2007

The Gym at Covent Garden is one of the Jubilee Hall Clubs.  I used this club a few times when I was in London recently.  I was basically looking for a gym that would remind me of a typical US gym (I’ve been to some questionable “gyms” in other parts of the world).  I was only sort of glad that I had found this one.

What motivates you?

June 27, 2007

I lead a pretty active lifestyle. I workout at least once almost every day, either running, spinning, cycling, strength training, cross training, or swimming (no, climbing my six flights of stairs everyday does not count). Checking out different gym memberships, though, made me consider, why exactly do I, or you, bother?

Daddy needs a new…ass?!?!

June 18, 2007

In keeping with what I need, I figured I’d mention this. Lots of people tell me that I have no ass. Probably an even greater number of people think that I am an ass. Fine, I have no problem with either.

Weight loss with oily discharge

June 5, 2007

hdrlogo.gifA few weeks ago, CNBC ran a report on Alli, the new weight loss drug from Glaxo Smith Kline, set to hit the market next week. This just isn’t any weight loss drug, this is the first over the counter pill manufactured specifically to help people lose weight. As part of their marketing campaign, GSK had taken the former Union Square Savings Bank and home to De La Guarda, converting it into an almost museum for the drug. Of course, I had to go check it out.

Spin Etiquette

June 4, 2007

A while back I was wondering if instructors cared whether students left class early. I wasn’t sure if it was disruptive for the class or if it was offensive, since a lot of time people walk out early because they don’t like the class or person teaching.

Dance, Dance

May 21, 2007

Dancing is a great form of exercise. So great, in fact, that gyms have incorporated different types of dancing into group fitness classes. It is pretty normal to see classes for everything from Bollywood Bhangra to hip hop to stripper aerobics. All the while, you are dancing to burn calories, and possibly pick up some moves to bring with you when you go out to a club.

That said, dancing provides a multitude of benefits for when you do go out.

Douchebags!

May 14, 2007

Is it just me, or does it feel like there is a higher concentration of douchebags in a workout environment than anywhere else; at least in real world day to day life. It kind of makes sense, after all, people tend to get into cramped quarters, get all sweaty, energized, and to some extent, completely self-involved. Social norms such as politeness or even basic etiquette tend to get thrown out the window. Maybe it’s the elevated levels of testosterone, or hey, maybe it’s just the fact that some people are complete douchebags.

Allow me to provide a few examples:

Coffee, coffee, coffee!!!

May 8, 2007

It’s 5:30AM, and I am sitting at my desk with a cup of coffee, home brewed. If it weren’t for this cup of coffee, I would still be in bed. Sure, no matter how many times I hit snooze on the alarm clock (and subsequently pissed the neighbors off), I need the kick of some serious caffeine to get me going, like a lot of people. Still, there seems to be an almost stigma associated with drinking coffee (or other caffeinated drinks), and it’s effects on exercise.
